A Ghost Town near Wickenburg, and popular tourist attraction located in Maricopa County about 15 miles outside of Wickenburg, is Vulture City, AZ, discovered by Henry Wickenburg. Known as one of the richest gold mines in the west (and still minimally producing until WW II), the authenticity encompasses the entire town. Many original buildings in this Ghost Town still remain in fairly good condition. Henry Wickenburg's cabin still stands as well as the local hanging tree that took 18 lives. Some mining equipment still remains, and an underground vault that once held the gold bars. The mine's office, assay's office, blacksmith shop, and miners' homes with many period relics and personal possessions remain to tell the story of days gone by. New Orleans, LA
New Orleans, LA, known for its rich and colorful culture, is home to The LaLaurie House, 1140 Royal Street, a place of past gruesome horror and torture. This French Quarter mansion, owned by Madame LaLaurie and her husband, was a New Orleans showcase. Elaborate parties and dinners were often given by the socialite, Madame LaLaurie. At the time, guests did not know of the brutally cruel treatment of the slaves behind closed doors. Torture chambers were later found. Mutilated men, women, and children were discovered dead and dying. As these stories emerged, the LaLauries took flight and the sightings of ghostly activities began. Over the years, the mansion was turned into a bar, a school, furniture warehouse, apartment building and, most recently, the mansion has been purchased by actor, Nicolas Cage.
